The top adviser to Texas Gov. Rick Perry says the Republican is “50-50” on whether he’ll run for president next year.
Perry got conservatives riled up this weekend with his speech at the Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans, departing the stage to chants of “Run, Rick, Run.”
The Wall Street Journal reports that Perry and his advisers are starting to figure out some of the roadblocks to entering the presidential race, including whether he’s got time to raise the money needed for a national campaign. They are reportedly talking to folks in Iowa about Perry’s chances in the caucuses there, and whether there could be some backlash to having another Texan in the White House so soon after George W. Bush’s tenure.
